The lodge was formed in 1869 in No. 11 District as an off-shoot of LOL 111. In previous years the “Scarlet Crown” played a prominent role in local unionist politics and at one stage had five Unionist MPs as members.
Banner unfurling
Scarlet Crown LOL 1919 dedicated a new banner in the Orange Hall on Thursday 26th June 2014.
The new banner is the lodge’s first in 25 years and is the first full size banner to be painted by local Orangeman Bro Stephen Rodgers. The banner features local scenes including the Town Hall, Scrabo Tower and the cenotaph around the main feature of a scarlet crown. The banner’s reverse depicts William III and his troops at the Battle of the Boyne.

Following the unfurling, the lodge were joined by visitors from other lodges in the District on the banner’s first parade around the town, which was led by the CLB band.

12th July 2005 – in pictures
Bro. Paul Heron was our WM this year and brought many guests, brethren and sisters, over with him from Scotland including Bro Ian Wilson, Grand Master of Scotland.
Paul was the entertainer and compere at the Ulster Scots evening in the Queen’s Hall on Friday 8th July. He also ran two very successful evenings for all the brethren and sisters in the Orange Hall on 11th and 12th evenings. The Lodge would like to thank their WM for all his hard work and kindness.

Why not join us?
Newtownards District consists of twelve lodges making up a membership of over 300. Each lodge holds a monthly meeting, where issues affecting the lodge are discussed. Though much of the business is of a formal nature, there is much social gathering between the members as well, at parades and other events which are organised throughout the year.
